Taser Alternatives Appearing

At the request of the Department of Homeland Security for less-lethal devices for law enforcement, several manufacturers are coming up with systems that can reach out and shock and stun subjects at increasing ranges.

The popular Taser has a range that is limited to about 15 to 21 feet.

New devices include those which can be launched from a 12-gauge shotgun or a 40 mm grenade launcher, both of which are typically used in law enforcement or riot situations to launch tear gas or baton rounds.

Some of the new systems are claiming to be able to reach out and touch someone at 40 to 50 meters.
